Jared Kelley I've only been to two concerts where the openers were so good that I left before the main act. One of these was Across Tundras, TG Olson's folk-doom act that is described as "Niel Young meets Neurosis". The Rough Embrace has become an instant classic in my book. This may not mean much as I'm no music critic or maybe it means more for just that reason. Either way, pay for this album and reap the benefits of Olson's hard work.

Bucky I've learned to embrace everything Tanner Olson releases. The Rough Embrace is rough and tough, embracing the spirit of Americana with that signature Across Tundras style. Grab the LP and become one of the few and the proud!

Track Name: Fool's Gold Miner
The line stretched for miles up to Dead Horse Pass.
The name prophetic, over the summit at long last.
Fortune seekers at the point of no return.
Sifting through broken pieces of the ground’s dying process.
Putting your stake in the great dilemma gets you to the center of the blues.
Spend a lifetime in a fool’s gold mine, buried in the iron pyrite tombs.
Eyes rolling back, survived by playing dead.
Heartsick nostalgic, lonely antiques of the past.
Electric shocks send fire through your head.
Burning the matter of memories.
If it’s willful it’s not a tragedy.
Owning a stake in the grave dilemma gets you to the center of the blues.
Spend a lifetime in a fool’s gold mine, buried in the iron pyrite tombs.
Track Name: Wars of Bygone Days
Nothing wrong with the silent type.
Lost all the will to fight.
The wars of bygone days, still water in our veins.
Like standing in the way of the Union Pacific train, the course can’t be changed.
Is it too far gone to make it right?
The question won’t let sleep come tonite.
The white flag Black Kettle raised was fired upon anyways.
How does one repay the things that can’t be repaid?
Home on the range.
Destiny doesn’t manifest the right to spill the blood of another lie.
Sinful deeds ain’t justified in the name of the crucified.
Hold fast to the crumbs of hope.
Gone the way of the Buffalo.
Lean on the restless wind, a strong branch won’t break when it bends.
The past won’t seal our fate.
The illusion can start to fade starting today.
Destiny doesn’t manifest the right to spill the blood of another lie.
Sinful deeds ain’t justified in the name of the crucified.
Track Name: Sleeper Lines
Will you live without knowing what might have been?
Leaving the seeds to sowing themselves in the wind.
Blowing in every direction, stretched a million miles thin.
We'll keep pushing forward, looking for the daylight within.
Heard the rumbling of the sleeper lines.
Wake up, wake up, the road she cried.
No I can’t slow down until I arrive, fall fast asleep into Sadie’s arms.
Deep blue soul is showing.
Eyes welling, overflowing.
Throw it into the ocean, the note is gone and the bottle is broken.
So just keep on driving, the big sun is almost rising.
Over one more horizon lies the promise of sweet hope.
Heard the rumbling of the sleeper lines.
Wake up, wake up, the road she cried.
No I can’t slow down until I arrive, fall fast asleep into Sadie’s arms.
Track Name: To Hell You Ride
Take what fate gives, try to hold on.
Sight can't be short on the road that is long.
Some can see a great distance naturally.
Will the blessed live to spite another day?
To Hell you ride through the pearly gates.
When you arrive go back the way you came.
It's high time to accept the circle won't break.
But it can bend with will and slowly become fate.
It’s either fight or flight under the gun.
Take the shot to the gut or the scar from the cut and run.
Color outside and over the lines that are drawn.
Paint a masterpiece or write a perfect song.
Bound by definition for argument's sake.
A devil in the details, no God with a human name.
Just the great and unsolved mystery.
The one and only secret that every soul will keep.
It’s either fight or flight under the gun.
Take the shot to the gut or the scar from the cut and run.
Track Name: Providence Gone Again
Providence gone with the wind, we won’t meet again.
Providence gone with the wind, we won’t meet again.
The disappearing divine slow rolling through the sky.
You can see it when you close your eyes.
You can see it when you close your eyes.
First dark then sparks start to fly.
Providence in on the wind, never thought we’d meet again.
Providence lives on a whim.
When will you leave again?
Are you trying to start a fire?
Burn everything in sight.
You can see it when you close your eyes.
You can see it when you close your eyes.
First sparks then the flame gets higher.
Providence burning again, hard to believe in it.
Track Name: Uncharted Depths
Heading for a little piece of Wilderness.
Thinking maybe solitude will do the trick.
No sleight of hand to redeem an unclean soul.
Mirrors everywhere that reflect an unseen image of self.
The mind can play countless tricks to convince one two doesn’t exist.
Down in the uncharted depths.
Nothing to hold but the sense of feeling so small at the limits of above and below.
Track Name: Out On the Fringes
Still got some mistakes to make.
A few old debts left unpaid.
Trying to learn a little bit more each day.
Did you know life is wearing your bravest face?
Lost out on the fringes.
Back to the center.
Straight down the middle of the row.
Worn and weathered.
Spiraling backwards.
Barreling forwards.
Still looking for the lost time to replace the same old you swore to forsake.
Trying like hell to slow burn the haste.
Eyes open wide for the hidden signs.
Lost out on the fringes.
Back to the center.
Straight down the middle of the row.
Worn and weathered.
Spiraling backwards.
Barreling forwards.
Track Name: Birdsong Chorus At Dawn
The birdsong chorus at dawn drowned out by the mechanical hum.
Are you up for the test?
Start bleeding your best blood.
We’re the suckers of soul.
Chewed up and spit out from a cold, metal mouth.
Where did good grace go?
Where did Gracie go?
The birdsong chorus at dawn drowned out by the mechanical hum.
Are you moving too fast?
No patience left for the ones that are shouting at walls.
Counting regrets, no fingers left, down to the very last toe.
Got to let it all go, restart at zero.
Stuck in the past is kicking my ass.
All for the sake of control.
The road leads to no end, walk it again.
Take all the mud they can throw.
The dirt won’t stain your soul.
Don't let your rage show.
The birdsong chorus at dawn drowned out by the mechanical hum.
Track Name: Something Left to Save
Last chance, let’s dance to the end times.
Memory lane is in flames.
A simple wave for leaving.
Long winded goodbyes we never believed in.
The mind gets these crazy ideas, forgets what came between us.
Nothing left to say.
Is there something left to save?
Last glance, looking back with the long eyes.
Casting dark shadow rays.
Seeing is not deceiving.
Redemption a fleeting feeling.
The mind gets these crazy ideas, forgets what came between us.
Nothing left to say.
Is there something left to save?
